It has been far too long since the last time I wrote an entry for this blog. It’s been far too long since I exercised regularly. It’s been far too long since I’ve…(INSERT INTENDED COMMITMENT REQUIRING DISCIPLINE AND FORTITUDE HERE:_____________).
I just heard a tremendous story of a lady who stayed committed to running for two years straight at least. A woman who did not settle for a life she could do something about changing. And with many strides she propelled herself forward day, after day, after day, after day…..NO MATTER what anyone thought of her and NO MATTER the weather. She didn’t stop. She ran.
Do we stop? Is it because of what others think? Is it because the weather is uncomfortable? What keeps us from propelling forward to reach life goals?
This tenacious woman kept on, and 2 years later, she was a woman transformed. It was evident from the outside. It was evident from the smile on her face. No longer propelling forward, this lady was SOARING.
I admire this kind of commitment so much. It’s not as much the success of the story, but the full-out determination of the committed that really inspires me. I am fully amazed by those who risk themselves and forsake their comfort to reach their goals.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance, the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
May we look to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith to be our ultimate inspiration, example, standard, motivator…..He didn’t give up, He faced opposition….He faced ‘weather’ that was most uncomfortable, to put it mildly, and He did it so you and I could have LIFE. May my heart and yours remember this. May we trust Jesus with every stride as we propel forward with Him, knowing that one day, if we throw off everything that hinders us and persevere, we will SOAR. In Jesus’ name. Oh HOW GREAT THOU ART!!
Life can present us with many challenges. We strive to be the BEST we can be in every situation. In our pursuit of excellence we may find that, like a marathon runner, we hit the WALL.
In what areas have you hit the WALL? Has exercising and eating right been a challenge for you? It has been for me. It can be difficult to pursue and stick to a discipline.
Perhaps you are faced with an addiction you can’t kick or a situation you can’t change. What do you do? You can’t do it and neither can I. We will never have enough willpower to break free or resist.
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
We sometimes believe that we can accomplish anything, and quite often, we fall short of what we set out to do. I believe it’s because we are fully relying on ourselves instead of fully relying on God.
We have to make a choice about how we live LIFE. Will it be our way or God’s way? Our way may not require fortitude or strength. God’s way will.
Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. Proverbs 16:3
May my heart and yours identify the areas in our lives that need to be committed to the LORD. May we commit all things to You Lord. May we run with endurance by the power of the Holy Spirit. May we cease from striving and give in all to the one who cares for us. May we cry out to Jesus in surrender and each proclaim, “I CAN”T do THIS!”. May we know with confidence how Jesus hears every prayer and plea we have. May we understand that Jesus died on a cross to give us life. Life in Him, where we CAN do all things because it is Jesus Christ Himself who strengthens us. There is NO ONE like You Jesus. In Your name we pray.
“There is no other name
By which man can be saved
There is no other name under Heaven
There is rest for my soul
And the wounded made whole
And the captives set free and forgiven”
