Day 44: feast

Today, as I was out to eat with a wonderful friend, I ate a meal that was not just a meal. It was a feast. There was food everywhere and it seemed it would never end. I would have been quite content with the entree, but the meal came with so many extras. There was a soup AND a salad and bread and dessert….it was a feast. It was more than I expected.

We were fortunate to know that when we sat down, we would be served and we could pick anything we wanted off the menu. But what if that wasn’t the case? Have you ever been hungry? REALLY HUNGRY and with no food to be had?

Jesus was faced with the hungry. 5000 of them. And they had a need I’m not sure they even knew they had. They needed to be fed, but there wasn’t anything much to feed them with.

Jesus does the unexpected. He was able to feed 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes. What seemed like a little, Jesus turned into a whole lot. He gave thanks and broke it up to the point where there was some left over. 12 small baskets of bread and fish to spare. How is this possible? It was a miracle. It wasn’t ordinary. It didn’t make sense and God made it happen through Jesus Christ His Son. He fed many people with what seemed to be just a little.

When God get’s a hold of things, He meets our needs with abundance. He can do anything, even if we can’t figure out how. He is God. We are not. He takes care of the feeding. We simply eat what He has freely offered us.

May we sit down at the table Jesus has prepared for us. May you and I realize how hungry we really are. May we be filled with all Jesus has to offer us, knowing it will be exceedingly more than we could ever hope or imagine for. May our hearts be filled with trepidation at the work of His hands. There is NONE like Jesus.

Day 11: Food

Life. We need food to survive. The food we eat helps us keep life. We can go without food. We can live without it for many days. Eventually, we must eat or we will starve to death. Eating food is a crucial part of life. Big revelation, huh?

Eating is crucial. What we choose to eat is important.

Jesus is the WORD of God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

And we are to chew on this Word, by His Spirit, that we would receive the LIFE it offers us.

May you and I eat of His Word, daily, that we would be changed from the inside out. May we ask Your Holy Spirit to “take us in” as we read the WORD. May the WORD not only sustain us, but give us LIFE abundant! May we think of our ‘dining’ experience with great anticipation and come to the table eager to be filled.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10

I’m hungry! Time to eat 🙂
