Day 73: love is in the air

Recently, I’ve been thinking about love.  It seems love is in the air and I breathe it in.

LOVE!

-Romantic

-Brotherly

-Paternal

-Maternal

-Sacrificial

-Unconditional

LOVE!

So many different types of love and so many ways to express love. So many ways to experience love. How do you and I experience love? How do you and I show love? How does it make you feel? How does it make others feel?

I am now referring specifically to romantic love  and I have recently realized that love has not been about love for me at all. Love may start that way initially, but in my attempt to protect “love” and keep “love”, I have sought to control “love”. Control it! How about you?

My definition of love has not been what God’s definition of love is. This Word of God says,

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

 Love never fails….”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Many of us are familiar with the passage above, but here is a challenge. Let’s change it up:

Love is impatient, it is unkind. It is envious, boastful and proud. It dishonors others, it is self-seeking, in is easily angered and it keeps a record of wrongs. Love delights in evil but does NOT rejoice in the truth. It never protects, never trusts, never hopes, never perseveres.

Love fails.

You bet it does! How many of us can relate to “loving” in such a way. I doubt any of us would aspire to such goals, but sometimes, we behave this way and sometimes we think we are actually being loving. Or, we don’t feel loved and therefore, we will not love.

It has occurred to me that LOVE can do nothing but LOVE. TRUE LOVE as described above in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8, cannot deny itself. To try to control love is not loving.  Love is a verb and when we truly love someone, we must LOVE. Period. With our whole hearts.

God has loved us with perfect love. JESUS. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever shall believe will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)  Someone once told me to replace the Word “love” with the name of Jesus:

Jesus is patient. Jesus is kind. Jesus does not envy, doesn’t boast and isn’t proud.  Jesus does not dishonor others, is not self-seeking, is not easily angered and keeps no record of wrongs. Jesus does not delight  in evil, but rejoices in the truth.  Jesus always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Jesus never fails.

Is this how you and I love? If it isn’t, what are we doing?

May we seek the Word of God to learn how to truly love others. May we surrender our feeble attempts at love to LOVE Himself. May we open our hearts to love like Jesus. In His name! Amen!!

Day 46: wake up!!

Jesus is beauty and He is alive in you!! Believe it! You’re beautiful 🙂

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

May my heart and yours rejoice in the truth of who Jesus us and what He has done for each one of us. May we choose LIFE on this day and declare the beauty and majesty that dwells within us. All other ground is sinking sand! May my heart and yours receive and declare His great love for us and who we are in Him. We’re beautiful!! xo
