Day 125: Square One

Progress……baby steps…….moving forward………STOPPED!

I progress…..I take baby steps……I am moving forward…….I STOPPED!

BACK TO SQUARE ONE

It is a good place to start.

Square One requires a new course of action. It can’t progress the same way, right? Everything was on course and then BAM, it wasn’t. But why?

What sets us back? What gets us off the track? What gets in the way?  Is WHAT the right question?

Romans 7:15-20New International Version (NIV)

15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[a] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.

For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.

For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.

What do I do now? What do you do now?

May my heart and yours surrender to the truth about ourselves and may we receive all we lack and then some from the ONE who has given us NEW LIFE. LIFE. LIFE. May we bring our plans to You Father God and ask You to prosper them. Remind us that it is no longer us that lives, but Christ that lives in us. May we receive Your grace and mercy for every time we return to Square One and know that with You Jesus, nothing is impossible. In Jesus’ Name we ask! Thank You LORD 🙂

Day 9: Unpredictable

Life. This blog is about LIFE! Life is unpredictable. There is just no telling what will be from one moment to the next. The funny thing is, most of the time, we think we know what is going to happen. We make plans and have routines and believe, somehow, that these things will stick and come to fruition, no matter what. Why? Because we say so? Perhaps because it is all we can wrap our minds around.

One thing life can promise: expect the unexpected. Do we? Are we ever really ready for ANYTHING?

Growing up, I used to plan my evening around favorite sitcoms. I knew when they would be on, the characters were predictable, as well as the content. If one of these shows was pre-empted, I would become disappointed.  Or if say, the Fonz was going to soar over a shark in a dare devil stunt, this was a big event. The format was different. It was exciting, but less than routine.  Can you relate? Have you ever been there? This is just a silly example of our routine being trumped and out of our control, but this kind of thing goes on ALL the time. It is life.

We can make plans. We do make plans. We will make plans. We think we are in control. We are mistaken. We are awakened.

We must remember that though we may be prepared for one thing, life may have other ideas. We may be left disappointed, elated, saddened, jubilant, angry….we just don’t know. Life can change in an instance. And in a blink, we may find ourselves face-to-face with “the end of the world as we know it”. REM

Tomorrow isn’t promised. I forget this fact. Do you?

As we look at the tragic events that have recently transpired, I think we come closer, much closer, to recognizing this fact. We are not in control. The world is not in control. It is completely unpredictable. Sometimes devastatingly so.

And our answer: How can we control it better? What can we change so that next time we will be in control? Will striding shoeless through security at every airline do the trick? We hope so. But the world is still unpredictable. Uncertain. Unsafe.

But God. He is predictable. His WORD tells us that He stays the same. He never changes.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8

this is Good news!!! this is LIFE!!!

May our hands, yours and mine, unclench and release it’s contents into the capable Hands of an unchanging and just God, knowing we can fully trust Him. May we freely receive His goodness and rejoice in His faithfulness.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Day 4: comfort

Have you ever had a day where the only thing you wanted was arms around you, holding you tight? A place to rest your head. To be quiet. To be warm. To be simply safe.

Those arms, whether holding or being held, separate us from the world. The demands. The hustle. The grind. Those arms remind us there is LIFE. Life to be lived, shared and appreciated. In being held is a moment of surrender. A deep exhalation. A letting go. A letting go by holding on?

And in those arms, there IT is!  COMFORT!   Comfort from the hustle, the grind, the demands of this world. COMFORT. Comfort for the pain, the sadness, the disappointment, the struggles. Comfort for all distress, for the waiting, for the madness that surrounds us. We desire  COMFORT.

It is an exchange.

A letting go.

A surrender.

To receive comfort, we must drop what we are holding.  Arms wide open with nothing between.  The best embrace.

Real, true, and unhindered.

Fully accepting. Fully receiving.

And then, the stillness of the embrace. A freeze-frame in a world of motion pictures.

LOVE comforts. LOVE releases. LOVE embraces. LOVE receives. LOVE sets free. LOVE is safe. LOVE has done it all.

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemy before you, saying, “Destroy him!”.   Deuteronomy 33:27

May we run into THOSE arms, you and me, with the understanding that we are being held in place forever. The place of refuge, where Almighty God is before us and our enemies cannot touch us, for they are no more!
